Dividend Income Calculator: How Much of Your Life Do Your Dividends Pay For?
The Freedom Meter is a free dividend income calculator that turns your portfolio into a simple answer: what share of your real life your dividends already cover. Enter your portfolio value and dividend yield, or build it up holding by holding, and see your monthly dividend income measured against four stages of financial freedom.
The four stages of dividend freedom
Instead of one distant finish line, the calculator splits the path into tiers you can actually feel. Basic keeps the lights on: rent, food, utilities, and insurance. Core covers your normal life, adding a car, phone, subscriptions, and clothes. Full means living well with a healthcare and savings buffer and no job required. Freedom is when work is fully optional, with travel, hobbies, and comfort built in. Every expense is editable, so the tiers reflect your life, not an average.
How much do you need to invest to live off dividends?
The math is straightforward: the capital you need equals the income you want divided by your dividend yield. Earning $50,000 a year takes about $1.25 million at a 4% yield, or roughly $1.67 million at 3%. Earning $63,000 a year takes about $1.26 million at 5%. The calculator does this in reverse for each tier, then shows how much more you would need to invest, or how many years of contributions it would take, to reach the next stage.
Plan the path, then share it
Set a monthly contribution and an expected growth rate to project how many years until each tier unlocks. When you like the result, download a ready-to-post image for X, Instagram, or a Story. Your inputs are saved in your browser for next time.
